Abstract

It is believed that the foundation of face identification in the brain is the presence of face-selective neurons in the primate visual pathway. The question of whether this neural selectivity develops naturally or needs training via visual experience is, however, still up for discussion. In this paper, we propose a model of the ventral visual stream that uses hierarchical deep neural networks to explain how face-selectivity develops in the absence of training. This study delves into the application of neural networks and machine learning techniques for facial image recognition. The research focuses on leveraging these technologies to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of facial recognition systems, contributing to advancements in the field of computer vision and biometric authentication.
