Abstract

This study aimed to identify the role of women community participation in sustainable local economic development in Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve these objectives, the researcher has employed quantitative and qualitative research approaches with an explanatory research design in which three research questions have been tested. To address the objective of the study, both primary and secondary sources of data were used. Besides, data that was collected through key informant interviews was analyzed using narration. Ordered logistic regression was used to identify the Role of Women Community Participation in Sustainable Local Economic Development in Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia.

Finding

The analysis techniques were performed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. The study has numerous significance in local economic development and worth in a lot of advantages including social, political, and economic arenas. The development projects undertaken in their locality had not been implemented needs of participants.

Research limitation

The current study was geographically focused on regional by considering the local economic development programs. The subject intelligence was focused on the Role of Women Community Participation in Sustainable Local Economic Development in Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia

Practical implications

This study also can create willingness to community in order to participate in development program and wake up local government program in order to aware local community according to participatory development approaches.

Originality/value: The study contributes empirical evidence about the Role of Women Community Participation in Sustainable Local Economic Development in Sidama Regional State, Ethiopia by allowing for factors that are responsible for community participation in economic development in term of demographic factor (gender and age) social factor (educational level and marital status), economic factor (work culture and income) and other factor (information access, awareness, mobility and political perceptions).
