Today, lifting systems are widely used in many areas. The field of application may vary depending on the purpose varying from material handling purposes in a manufacturing environment to lifting up to our apartments situated at top floors. Even when witnessed the application of mechanism in lifting cars in automobile sector and also our government is looking forward to use these in warehouses to raise the grain stock in emergency situation so that their rotting due to water-logging can be avoided and meanwhile the stock can be shifted to safer places. In this paper, the design of an automated mechanical lift for lifting purpose is carried out and proposed. The mechanism developed could effectively carry out the upliftment or vertical displacement of material, hence fulfilling its very purpose. The mechanism is designed for a load capacity of 15kg which required 1hp electric motor. The automation of the system was achieved using rack and pinion gear arrangement, durable platform, contactors and limit switches. The total efficiency when measured of an artificial lift is found from the total energy required to operate the system and hydraulic power spent on lifting the fluid. The evaluation of the mechanism is being done for raising the load within a range of 5-20 kg through a distance of 1000mm and coming back.
