An Analysis on Design And Development of Vacuum Braking System

Abstract

Vacuum brakes were first used in place of air brake in railway locomotives. Vacuum braking
system utilizes a vacuum pump for creation of vacuum in the brake pipe.this vacuum
reservoir is used for the application of brakes. These days to reduce the driver effort on foot
pedal most of the light vehicles are fitted with vacuum-assisted hydraulic braking system to
create vacuum from the engine. The vacuum braking system was changed from on top of
aforesaid reasons and also the same was tested for implementation in each lightweight and
serious vehicles. Here, during this work, vacuum is made and used for the applying of brakes.
This operation is somewhat the same as that of air braking system. the most distinction with
air brakes is that vacuum is employed rather than compressed gas. design and modifications
to the system additionally includes the Vacuum brakes i.e., as a result of spring force and
also the loss of vacuum can cause the brake to be applied.
