Weight Optimization of Truck Chassis Frame using FE Analysis

With the recent advances in the variety of computer applications and the severe crisis in energy, the manufacturers of vehicle are making continuous efforts to improve the vehicle performance as well as to reduce the cost of production. One of the methods to improve the performance of the vehicle is by reducing the tare of vehicle. Chassis which acts as Skelton of the vehicle is one of heaviest part. Therefore, the usage of modern techniques to optimize the chassis design becomes feasible. The main aim of this work is to optimize the chassis frame using ANSYS without compromising the functional requirements. The work involves creating a 3D model of existing Eicher 11.2 truck C-shaped chassis and to carry static and dynamic analysis using ANSYS. Then to optimize the chassis by using C shaped chassis with reduced thickness and by replacing with I section.
