Detection of Dementia by Behavior Sensing

Abstract

As per the recent study the number of dementia illnesses has seen growth around the world. This disease can be treated if it is early detected. So there is a need to develop a system that detects the disease in elderly people living alone. In the system, different sensors sense the behavior of elderly people who are living alone. Effect of dementia is determined by calculating a score of sensed behavior. Behaviors in the initial stage of dementia are many and diverse from designated to subjects, therefore, in this study, we collected data from different subjects and, we considered lifestyle background. Sensors that collect behaviors in households created in previous research sometimes failed to obtain the sense-data under the influence of the surrounding environment. So, to overcome this drawback, we improved the sensor device so it is not influenced by the surrounding environment and hence it is possible to accumulate the sense data of persons who suffered from dementia that had not been accumulated yet.
