Abstract

Renewable energy is so vital for today's world as shortly as the non-renewable sources that we are using are going to get exhausted. The solar vehicle is an important step in saving these non-renewable sources of energy. A solar car is a solar vehicle that is most useful for transportation. Solar cars mostly utilize power from the sun, although some models will operate on a battery, or use solar panels or installed auxiliary systems for a car operation. Solar cars unite technology which is mainly used in the aerospace and automotive industries. The design of a solar vehicle is mainly decided by the amount of energy input into the car. Most solar cars have been built for using it in the solar car races. Some prototypes have been designed for public use, and the solar-charged battery electric vehicle named as Light-year One is expected to be available from 2021. Solar cars mainly count upon a solar array that uses photovoltaic cells (PV cells).Unlike thermal energy batteries (TEB) which convert solar energy into heat and then convert heat to electricity, PV cells directly convert sunlight into the electricity. When sunlight strikes PV cells, they stimulate electrons which allow them to flow and create an electric current. PV cells are made up of semiconductor materials like silicon and alloys of indium, gallium, and nitrogen. Crystalline silicon is one of the most common materials used and has an efficiency rate of 15-20%.
