Abstract

The review deals with the applications of algorithms in types of digital and computer programs in the human and scientific fields. Although there is no formal consensus on an appropriate definition of “algorithm”, it is possible to formulate an informal definition of it by considering it as “a set of rules that express a specific series of operations” that would include all computer programs, including programs that do not perform numerical arithmetic operations. Since the 1950s, computers have seen a significant improvement in both available computing power and the amount of available memory, so current levels of acceptance are not comparable to those accepted, say, 10 years ago.
