To aid future breakthroughs in plastic welding, this paper introduces some significant information and advancements in the field. Several industries frequently use plastic-made components. These days, parts made of polymeric materials and polymeric composites had to meet a lot of strict requirements. Polymers offer great strength-to-weight ratios, outstanding finishing ability, and strong corrosion resistance. Thermosets and thermoplastics are two types of polymers, only the thermoplastic of these two can be welded. In the case of thermoset resin, a chemical reaction takes place during processing and curing as a result of an irreversible cross-linking reaction in the mold. Because of the irreversible process, neither molded thermosets nor vulcanized elastomer components may be reformed by heating them. Heat cannot be used to reshape either molded thermosets or vulcanized elastomer components because an irreversible reaction takes place. Hence, in this instance, joining can only be accomplished through mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding. This essay discusses a few specific welding techniques, including hot gas welding, friction welding, hot plate welding, etc. There have also been discussions on several crucial Poly Vinyl Chloride welding characteristics, including welding methods, welding temperatures, welding speeds, and equipment requirements. Moreover, recent advancements in this area have been reviewed.
