Abstract

The usage of cement concrete mixture in pavement constructions became advantageous due to its more life span as well as little maintenance. But cement concrete pavements may receive spalling and cracking. Cement concrete mixture is feeble in tension and possesses less ductility. To mitigate these issues, we are introducing discrete fibers. Nowadays discrete fibers like polypropylene fibers, polyester fibers, etc. are used in concrete. Discrete fiber is used in cement concrete to boost the quality of cement concrete roads. In this project, polypropylene fibres are used because they improve the flexural property and compressive strength properties of cement concrete pavement. The use of polypropylene fibres can reduce drying shrinkage and avoids microcracking. It also has a high burning point. The addition of polypropylene fibres in different proportions to the concrete split tensile, compressive, and flexural strengths will be more when compared with normal cement concrete. The results of the research work proved that the inclusion of polypropylene fibres most effectively improved the strength characteristics of cement concrete.
