Quantity Take Off Using Building Information Modelling

Traditionally, 2-D drawings provided by the architect to the general contractor were used to perform and develop Quantity Takeoffs and Estimates. Quantity takeoff is repetitive job in the construction project. Generally Quantity take-off is carried out using manually center line method, which requires much time and having lot of errors. But in recent years, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and BIM-based quantity takeoff have become more popular in the building sector (QTO). As Quantity takeoff using BIM is software based, it gives more accurate results than traditional method. The main objective of this research is to generate a bridge among the Building Information Modelling 3D model & a dataset which can be used to hold data got from model. The bridge permits automatic convey of material quantities from the BIM 3D model to dataset. The principal objective of this research is to calculate quantities using BIM/ Software based method.
