Innovative Materials in Green Buildings with Reference to Humidity Adjustment

Abstract

Humidity is one of the important environmental components related to human comfort. In green buildings, indoor environment is considered as one of the basic requirement. Humidity directly affects occupant’s physical and mental health. If humidity remains in comfortable range (45% to 65%), it is advantageous in energy saving. Humidity adjusting materials in construction are those ecological materials, which can adjust the relative humidity of the air automatically, without using any artificial energy and mechanical equipment. There are various such types of materials. Wood is natural humidity adjusting material on the other side some smart materials like salts, Organic polymer material, composite ceramic material, are the examples of humidity adjusting materials. Some of the researchers have made humidity adjusting blocks, conditioning gel also.
