Analysis of Weather Trends and Some Evidences of Climate Change in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (India)

Abstract

This study presents a trend analysis of monthly precipitation, mean temperature, maximum temperature and minimum temperature over a period in between 1901–2016 (116 years). Non-parametric statistical tests called Mann–Kendall test (MK test) has been used for the analysis. The analysis of temperature trends revealed a significant increase during winter and spring seasons; whereas, there is a decreasing trend in temperature of the monsoon season. Analysis of precipitation showed a decreasing trend in the months of spring from mid-February to March. Also, snowfall trend over the last 35 years showed a fall of -1.3%. The analyses indicated some evidences of impact of climate change in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (India).
