Abstract

The world energy consumption has grown to almost double in the last decade and it is increasing at a overwhelming of rate up to 7% to 8% per annum. According to sector consumption is compared it is clearly visible that the industrial loads alone consume more than 45% of total electrical energy. In industries, motor consumes about 60% of all the energy. The conventional motor which is used in the industry are manufactured to operate at 45% to 95% of rated load. The efficiency of motor is up to 78% at maximum rated load. To due to this there is a need for motors that can operate at higher efficiency. Energy Efficient motors could be the way forward to solve this crisis. This chapter presents information about energy-efficient motor technologies and efficient transmission systems. It provides better ways for industries to save their energy and money, with replacing standard motors to energy efficient motors. It improves the power factor of industrial load.
