Manufacturing is the process of creating commodities in large quantities, from basic resources to more valuable finished goods. Large-scale manufacturing transforms raw materials into finished products that may then be sold for a profit. Press tools are plentiful in the manufacturing industry as they can perform a vast range of different tasks. To create sheet metal components, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical presses frequently employ press tools. A press tool consists mainly of a die, punch, stripper, backup plate, die block, etc. Presses are used to perform stamping, punching, bending, shearing, converting, and assembly operations. Here, our project deals with the design and development of a die and punch for a metal backup plate. This plate is mostly used in the mining, aerospace, and automobile sectors. Implementation of this project resulted in a reduction in lead time and cycle time, a rise in productivity, and a cost reduction. The initial cycle time was 21 seconds and is now reduced to 14 seconds. Hence, the reduction in cycle time is 66.66%. This helped fulfill the needs of the industry.
