Application of Hand Anthropometric Data in Design of Hand Tools – Indian Context

Abstract

Hand anthropometry is seen to be of
paramount importance for ergonomically
safer designing of hand-related products
including hand tools and consumer products
etc. According to anecdotal evidence from
developing nations, hand tools and other
equipment that are not designed to meet the
anthropometry of the workforce are just as
troublesome in underdeveloped nations as
they are in affluent countries. The study
describes that functionality and physical
interaction are the most important factor
factors related to the designing of hand tools.
The research suggested modification in the
design of hand tool handles to make them
more ergonomically compatible.
