Abstract

Adhesive bonded joints are most commonly used to
join structural components. Some of the joint
configurations are single lap joints, double lap
joints and hybrid joint. We are choosing single lap
joint (SLJ) for analysis purpose. Here in this paper
we are using metal as steel C15, composite as
carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and
adhesive as araldite AV138. The overlap length,
thickness of the adhesive is the main factor which
affects the bonding strength. The aim of this paper
is to carry out an equivalent study involving several
combinational single lap joint geometries using
various adhesive thickness and various overlap
length. For this purpose single lap joint were
chosen for analysis. The structural behavior of a
single lap joint subjected to a tensile external load
was evaluated by means of the Finite Element
Method (FEM). The model is done in catia
software. The analytical results obtained using
Ansys software. The objective of this paper is to
investigate the tensile strength of the adhesive
bonding for various adhesive thickness and overlap
length.
