Optimization of Core Weight Using Lean Management

Abstract

Today, principles and practices of Lean
management are widely used by industries to
eliminate waste and make the process more
efficient. Lean has been renowned as one of the
key methods to advance organizational
production and effectiveness. The current work
deals with the implementation of lean
management in a foundry. A process where lean is
to be implemented is a casting process. The
casting process is a manufacturing a process
which consists of making of the mould, pouring
metal in it to get cast product. In casting process,
different cores are used to manufacturing a
hollow component. Work deals with using lean to
optimize the weight of the core, which help to use
less sand to make core. This is achieved by
designing core and then analysing it with the help
of software’s like ANSYS, CATIA. After
optimization, the results are compared and the
conclusion is drawn with the help of data.
