Abstract

The present work is to study the effect of cutting parameters on the multiple performance characteristics in dry turning of SS304 steel. The work material considered is good in processability, weldability, corrosion resistance, heat resistance. Because of its properties, it has applications in the petroleum & chemical industry, metallurgical machinery, aerospace industry, food processing equipment, household appliances, and hardware manufacturing industries. A series of experiments were designed and performed with coated tungsten carbide tools on a CNC turret lathe. Taguchi’s mixed L18 orthogonal array is employed for the selected process parameters. The multiple responses of material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (Ra) were explored using Taguchi-based desirability grey analysis. The results predicted that the feed is the most influencing factor and the model prepared is the best fit and adequate.
