Slum Settlements’ Malignancy: Karachi as One of the Most Agglomerated Cities in the World

The population pressure on the big cities resulted in the emergence of urban slums (Kachi Abadis). In Pakistan, more than 36% of the total population is urbanized, but unfortunately, more than 30 million urban populations live in KAs. Karachi even the biggest urbanized city in Pakistan has 14% of the urban population in KAs. In this study, 300 KAs of six districts of Karachi city were studied empirically, theoretically, and analytically. It has been attempted in this study to find the causes of rapid slum developments, basic socio-economic conditions, and major concentration of KAs concerning districts of Karachi city.
