Abstract

Water retaining structure is one of the crucial
life-line structures. In most rural and city
places, water tanks appear to be a vital
component of the water supply system. The
water storage tanks have lesser ductility and
energy absorption capability in comparison
with any other general structure. Hence
safety against seismic situations for these
storage structures becomes of significant
importance. The water tanks get seriously
harmed or even may fail during seismic
situations because of ‘fluid-structure’
interactions, therefore the seismic interaction
of the tank is normally a complex
phenomenon. Water tanks must be functional
post the quake situations to make sure water
is supplied to quake-influenced areas. The
main motto of this work is dynamic analysis
of a circular overhead water tank in three
conditions namely full, half, and empty
condition. The whole process will be carried
out in a tank with and without a tuned liquid
damper.
