Abstract

In this paper, the detailed study of a helical coil with a cone shape is carried out and presented in its experimental investigation. Two types of coils are used namely; cone-shaped helical coil and traditional helical coil. The performance of these coils in terms of convection heat transfer for different Reynolds numbers is carried out. The parameters like; length, height, and pitch of the coil are used for this study. The performance analysis of heat exchangers with cone-shaped helical coils and traditional helical coils is obtained by considering basic assumptions. The steady flow conditions are considered for all calculations of the performance of the heat exchanger. The reading is taken for laminar and turbulent regions during the experimentations.  The different flow rates of fluid on the coil side are considered during experimentations. The experimental results show that the efficiency or effectiveness and heat transfer rates of the heat exchanger for the cone-shaped helical coil are greater than that for the traditional helical coil for different Reynolds numbers.
