Abstract

The most popularly used prime mover is compression ignition (CI) engine, which moves a large portion of the world’s good and majorly uses diesel as a fuel in turn leads ever increasing demand throughout the world wide. Also, one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution is diesel fuel. The resolving solution for this problem is use of renewable fuel i.e. Biodiesel. Biomass in the form of cashew nut shell (CNSL) represents a new energy source and abundant biodegradable source of energy in India. The Biodiesel made from CNSL and its blend with diesel are promising alternative fuel for diesel engine. This paper presents performance evolution results of single cylinder diesel engine with different loads were studied using Diesel and CNSL Biodiesel [CNB10] blend with water emulsification of 3 to 15% by volume. The results are compared with neat diesel operation and other fuels tested; results showed that CNB10W3fuel (3% water) enhance the engine performance in-terms of Specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, smoke etc.
