Abstract

The maritime industry is considered to be risk-prone industry. The major concern of this industry is collaborative risk reduction and improving maritime security. Humans are one of the contributing factors which can be considered as a key component of ocean security. Perhaps, this is the only life parameter, which interacts with and controls other parameters. Therefore, human actions have a profound impact in terms of the safety of ships and most of the marine accidents are the result of human error. Human resource management is considered to be an essential function in the shipping industry due to diversity of constraints: national and international rules and regulation which are regulated by International maritime organization (IMO). The industry requires effective human resource management practices and policies. Continuous maritime training gives power to the workers, ensuring that qualified manpower requirement is maintained. The research paper aims at exploring the chief human resource practices followed in the marine industry, study the techniques adopted by marine industry for training purpose, and to study the effectiveness of training techniques adopted by the marine industry for training purpose.
