The Effect of Nurse Managed Geriatric Clinic Based on Donabedian Model on Quality of Health Services

Health care for the elderly is a major area of challenge in the health system and Geriatric nursing care is a specialized approach. Nurses help patients to understand the issues and situations coexisting with their health problems and offer comprehensive care, counseling, and other supportive services. A theory based approach will all the more enhance the purpose of the care and quality of the services. To provide a quality nursing care Structure Process and Outcome Avedis Donabedian model was utilized to establish the Nurse managed geriatric clinic. The outcome component was checked using The SERVQUAL tool for assessing the perceptions on quality of care. Results were analyzed using Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics which revealed Majority of the elderly 25 (71.4%) were satisfied and 10 (28.6%) had somewhat satisfied respectively. The mean and standard deviation of perceptions of the elderly showed the highest score in Tangibility domain (5.285+0.825), and the lowest score in Empathy domain (4.057+0.802), respectively. The demographic variables had not shown statistically significant association between levels of perceptions on care of the elderly. The study revealed that a Nurse managed clinic seems to be a cost effective method to provide quality health services for the elderly especially at the rural settings.
