Cognitive Stimulation Therapy: An Approach to Cognitive Impairment and Quality of Life

Abstract

Cognitive stimulation, themed based multi component therapy has been popular and cost effective which focuses on cognitive abilities and can be given by the professional nurses, an occupational therapist or a care giver. The aim of the current paper was to identify the effectiveness of cognitive stimulation therapy on cognitive functions and quality of life. In this paper twenty-five recent high-quality studies including both qualitative and quantitative were reviewed by using key words search method. The findings are discussed and research gaps pertaining to CST are listed accordingly. The key research papers are extracted from scholarly repositories such as PubMed, CINHAL, Cochrane, Google scholar, Research Gate. The findings are critically dissected to form meaningful and relevant research gaps. This paper is a systematic review analysis based on multiple intervention-based CST studies done between 2013-2021.The research paper on CST available today majorly reports about aged adults (>60 years) diagnosed with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. This is a formative paper as research gaps has been identified but by result of various studies it’s been found as a promising therapy as improvement in cognitive status of patient, however involving the care giver in delivery of such approach can improve its outcome.
