Traditional Healing Practices with Folk Herbal Medicine in A Municipality in Southern Philippines

Background: people in the provinces have been using therapeutic plants derived from herbs since the beginning of time, even before Western pharmaceutical items were ever manufactured anywhere in the country. Objective: As a result of this, the purpose of the study is to investigate and explore the medicinal plants that are readily available in Masiu, Lanao del Sur. Sufficient information on these plants can be obtained at the kiosk. As a result, phytodiversity is required to satisfy many of the requirements that are necessary for the daily livelihood of humans. Methodology: The data was then collected through convenience sampling and analyzed through data analysis of transcription, checking and editing, analyzation and interpretation, generalization, and validation. Five respondents were interviewed. The informants supplied information on 48 medicinal species; the residents employed medicinal plants to cure 43 various types of ailments. Among the ailments, plants were used for the treatment of migraine with five different kinds of species; Diabetes, Diarrhea, dry cough, Fever, and Kidney Disease with four species; Measles, Uterine Contraction, Tooth Ache, Rashes, and Ulcer 3 species; Asthma, Bumps, Burn, Dysmenorrhea, Eye sore, Hypertension, Sore Throat, Splinter, and Typhoid Fever with two species each; and other remaining ailments such as cough, crush injury, dandruff, dengue fever, gastritis, headache, hepatitis, lump, Postpartum Hemorrhage, Vomiting, wound, and other conditions. Results: In Masiu, Lanao del Sur, there was a lack of understanding of the species of traditional medicinal herbs. This study was carried out in the region with the goals of documenting the applications of medical plants, preserving traditional knowledge, and encouraging locals to fight against the loss of their treasure of traditional knowledge regarding medicinal flora. Conclusion: The widespread use of medicinal plants that were recorded illustrates the significance of traditional herbal preparations for the provision of medical assistance among indigenous peoples in the region. In order to make more effective use of natural resources, the utilization of native plants necessitates the development of conservation methods and more study.
