Aims & Objectives: The goal of the research is to evaluate the effectiveness of clapping therapy on the quality of sleep among the elderly residing in selected old age homes at Mysore. Methods: In this study, a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group research design was adopted. A purposive sampling technique was used to select samples. Data was collected using a demographic sheet and Pittsburgh Insomnia Rating Scale (20 items). The pre-test quality of sleep was assessed and administered clapping therapy was for 30 minutes for 20 days only for the experimental group and later post quality of sleep was assessed. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the pre and post-quality of sleep among the experimental group as well as in the control group. The comparison between the mean post-test scores of the experimental and control groups showed a significant difference which inferred that clapping therapy is effective in improving the quality of sleep. There was no significant association between the pretest qualities of sleep with selected demographic variables. Interpretation and conclusion: The above findings inferred that clapping therapy is very effective in improving the quality of sleep among the elderly. Practising clapping therapy daily for 20 – 30 mts per day will help the elders to have better sleep. So, it can be recommended for practice among the elders for better sleep.
