Abstract

Music can soothe tears in a way that medicine cannot. The present study focuses on the effect of music therapy on anxiety among hemodialysis patients at a selected hospital in Wayanad. The objectives of the study are 1.) to assess the anxiety level of the patient undergoing hemodialysis, 2.) to assess the effectiveness of music therapy on anxiety levels among the experimental group undergoing hemodialysis and 3.) to find the association between anxiety level and music therapy with selected demographic variables. The research design adopted was A Quasi-experimental group pre-test-post-test design and a purposive sampling technique was used for the study. The tool is divided into three sections that include information on demographics, an anxiety evaluation scale, and recorded music. 30 people made up the study sample. The study findings showed that following musical treatment, the sample's mean post-test and pre-test anxiety scores differed significantly (p-value 0.05). Additionally, both in the pre-test and the post-test, there is a substantial association between anxiety level and prior exposure to music therapy. There is also a substantial association between anxiety scores and annual income in the pretest. Posttest, a strong relationship exists between anxiety scores and several demographic factors, including gender, annual income, education, length of sickness, the number of times a patient has undergone hemodialysis, and prior music therapy experience.
