Abstract

Title: “A study to evaluate the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding cardiac rehabilitation among the nursing students in selected nursing college at Vijaypur, Karnataka”. Background: The widely accepted definition of health is given by World Health Organization “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity”. Objectives are: To assess the level of knowledge on cardiac rehabilitation among 2 year B. Sc. nursing students. To evaluate the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding cardiac rehabilitation & to find out the association between the levels of knowledge with selected socio-demographic variables. Methodology: The pre-experimental one group pretest and post test design was used for this study. The setting was selected college of nursing in Vijayapura, with sample of 6 2nd yr B.sc nursing student , pilot study was conducted, sample for the major study included 60 2nd yr B.sc nursing student on the basis of simple random sampling technique. A structured interview schedule was used to assess knowledge and practice of self care activities. The reliability of the tool was established by split half technique and reliability co-efficient. Results: In pre-test, overall mean percentage of knowledge score was 43% and that of the post-test was 79.16% with the enhancement of 36.16%. The statistical paired ‘t’ value 32.87 is greater than the table value 2.02 which implies that the difference between the pre-test and post-test knowledge scores found to be statistically significant at 5% level. Hence stated null hypothesis H01 is rejected in relation to all aspects of knowledge and research hypothesis H1 is accepted.
