Abstract

Hypertension is considered to be an important risk factor for many disease conditions like acute myocardial infarction, stroke, kidney disease, and heart attack therefore high systolic and diastolic blood pressure is considered the main worldwide health problem. In prehypertensive individuals’ lifestyle modification plays a vital role. Sympathetic activity, chemoreceptor responses, and autonomic balance are maintained with the help of yoga and it reduces the B.P. Meditation and yoga practice have helped in reducing blood pressure and the hypertensive population has seen in reducing the use of antihypertensive medication with the help of yogic practices. For treating hypertension healthcare system needs to recognise yoga as a complementary therapy.
