Abstract

Background of the study: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death all over the world. Myocardial infarction is a chronic lifelong illness. Myocardial infarction results in an enormous burden of increased mortality and morbidity. Awareness regarding the alarming symptoms of MI enables a person to prevent further damage by seeking medical help at the earliest. Aim: A study was done to assess the effectiveness of educational intervention on knowledge regarding alarming symptoms and its management of myocardial infarction among workers in selected industries at Mysuru. Methodology: 40 Industrial workers were selected using a purposive sampling technique. One group of pre-test and post-test research designs was used. Data was collected by administering the structured knowledge questionnaire before and after the intervention. Collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Study results have revealed that the majority 20(50%) had average knowledge, 1(2.5%) had good knowledge and 19 (47.5%) had poor knowledge in the pre-test whereas in the post-test test majority, 39 (97.5%) were having good knowledge, 1(2.5%) had average knowledge none of them had poor knowledge. The mean difference between the mean pre-test and post-test knowledge score was 6.63 with the standard deviation difference of ± 1.47. The paired ‘t’(39) =28.577*, which was found significant at 0.05 level of significance. Hence it was inferred that educational intervention had played a vital role in improving the knowledge of industrial workers regarding alarming symptoms of Myocardial infarction.
