Critical Evaluation of Wind Speed and Performance of STATCOM on Wind Farm: Ethiopia

Abstract

Renewable energy like wind, solar is playing a key role in the present energy sector. The shortage of conventional sources and the increasing concern over greenhouse gas emissions. The selection of sites for the installation of wind power plants is becoming a major criterion for the wind farms. If wind farms are already installed the incorporation of STATCOM is not a big issue. In this paper the Weibull analysis is done on the site Oromia, Ethiopia. Wind data is collected for the month of January 2017. Profile parameters are analyzed by incorporating the STATCOM the voltage profile is improved and clearly presented in the paper. All the simulation results are performed in MATLAB environment.
