Abstract

Now days, the demand for power quality in electrical system is more and growing rapidly.
With the advance technology developed through semiconductors and power electronic
devices, the dc-dc converters are introduced, as it plays important role in power electronics
and industrial drives applications. Half bridge converters (HBC) or full bridge converters
were normally used for the battery charging applications and there was less importance
given for the harmonics and ripple reduction. Due to this there were large load variations. In
order to overcome such drawbacks, this paper presents a dc-to-dc converters along with
Inductor-Capacitor-Inductor (LCL) filters are introduced at the input side to increase the
reliability and power quality performance by reducing ripples and harmonics. Hence, the
above mentioned HBC with LCL filter can shape the input current waveform to a non
pulsating form. A prototype of battery charger with half bridge converter is simulated using
MATLAB software.
