The Linkage between Polytechnic TVET Colleges and Industries in Addis Ababa: Challenges and Prospects

Abstract

The main objective of the study is to look in to the Linkage between TVET polytechnic College and Industries in Addis Ababa. To this end, we employed descriptive survey design. A total of 277 respondent selected using purposive sampling, stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Relevant information from selected respondents was collected using closed ended questioners and observations. Upon completion of the data collection exercise, all completed research instruments were assembled, coded, summarized, and fed into computer and analyzed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS). Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis approach were used for analysis. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. The research finding of this study confirms that the graduates of the sector have less technical and academic skills. The graduates are also so young and less matured to take the responsibility and lead the industry. The finding also shows that the integration between industry and TVET poly Technique College was so week even for the students to take apparentship in the industry. The study conclude that in based on the final finding the teaching-learning approach is substandard and as result unable to produce the required skilled man power for the industry. Based on the research findings the study forwarded the following recombination: TVET polytechnic Colleges should establishes partnership with stakeholders through workshop, Seminar, Curriculum development, experience sharing and labor market analysis’s, the federal TVET Agency is advised to provide varies incentives for industries that accept trainees and help them with a required skill, knowledge and work ethics.
