Assess the Attitude towards the Birth of a Girl Child among Families Residing in Selected in Rural and Urban Areas of Hisar, Haryana

Introduction: The reasons stated by the majority for getting the sex determination test done was for avoiding the problem associated with the girl child such as dowry, parents feel that finding a suitable and good match for a daughter is difficult, otherwise life can become hell. Another belief parents have is that they should not expect support from daughters during old age and this also makes the girl child unwanted. So, according to many researches finding is not good attitude of families related to birth of a girl child. Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to assess the attitude towards the birth of the girl child among families residing in selected urban and rural areas of Hisar, Haryana. Material and Methods: A Quantitative Nonexperimental comparative research approach and design was used. The pilot study was conducted on 5 urban and 5 rural samples from ajad nagar, hisar and village siwani, hisar, Haryana. The main study was conducted in Jawahar Nagar Hisar from urban 30 sample and Agroha village 30 sample respectively in Rural area. Probability convenient sampling technique was used. Section 1: It consist of socio-demographic variables such as age, religion etc. Section 2: It consist of self-structured Likert scale Results: The findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents in urban area22 (73.3%) had highly positive attitude and 18 (26.6%) had highly positive attitude and 10 (33.3%) had low positive attitude towards the birth of girl child. There was no statistical difference between attitude towards birth of a girl child in urban and rural families.
