The development of the Internet of Things has brought about significant changes to precision agriculture by enabling continuous monitoring and evaluation of the development and health of crops in real-time. In this piece, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the smart crop monitoring systems that are enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT) for use in environmentally responsible and accurate agriculture. Our investigation covers all of the most current developments in Internet of Things technology as well as the applications of that technology to intelligent farming. In this article, we will talk about the many different protocols, network topologies, and platform options that are utilized for crop monitoring and sustainability. In addition, we analyze the challenges that are connected with the Internet of Things-enabled agricultural monitoring systems as well as the potential that exists in this space. We also highlight several challenges that need to be overcome to ensure the broad adoption of IoT-enabled smart agricultural monitoring systems. These difficulties include concerns over data security and privacy, high implementation costs, and the need for specialized technical skills. We also investigate the possibility that intelligent crop monitoring systems that are enabled by the Internet of Things might contribute to the regulation of irrigation, the maintenance of food security, and the development of sustainable agriculture. This article presents a detailed review of intelligent crop monitoring systems that are enabled by the Internet of Things and discusses the potential for these systems to revolutionize precision agriculture. This review aims to inform future research in this area and to promote the development of new techniques and methods for sustainable agriculture. Its objective is also to inform future research on this topic.
