Abstract

This paper delves into the intricacies of handover processes in cellular networks, where active user sessions are seamlessly maintained even as mobile terminals shift their connection points within the access network. A multitude of Quality of Service (QoS) parameters significantly influence the decision-making process of handovers. Notably, it has been established that soft computing techniques, such as the fuzzy inference system and optimization algorithms like the firefly algorithm, stand out as the most dependable and prominent methods for effective handover decisions. Building upon the foundation of a fuzzy inference system integrated with the firefly optimization algorithm, this research proposes a robust mechanism for optimizing handover decisions. The primary aim of this study is to develop an adaptive approach for parameter evaluations, achieved through the automated application of the firefly optimization algorithm. This departure from manual parameter evaluation addresses the scalability challenges faced by existing methods, making it more feasible to operate on a larger scale. Both the techniques like traditional and proposed are applied for Experimental analysis. Based on the experimental analysis the results are obtained that state that the proposed technique has less probability for disconnection compared to the traditional technique concerning the random and straight terminal movement.
