Workplace Violence Experiences Among Nurses in Selected Hospitals Chinhat Lucknow: A Descriptive Study

Abstract

Introduction: Violence in the workplace is a widespread issue in the healthcare industry, especially in hospitals, which has an impact on the performance and job satisfaction of healthcare workers. Hospitals are places where workplace violence exists in various forms linked to numerous circumstances, with nurses being the most impacted healthcare workers. The increased instances of violence against nurses at work are creating stress, especially among nurses working in hospital emergency rooms. Numerous incidents of workplace violence against nurses have been documented in the past and continue to be reported from various regions of the country and the world. Aim: to look at nurses' experiences with workplace violence. Objectives: to learn what kinds of workplace violence nurses encounter. Description of the Tools: the Semi-structured questionnaire tools were selected for evaluating the workplace violence experiences among nurses. Section I: Include 2 items in demographic variables of the respondents about age, sex, religion. Section II: Consist of 1 area types of workplace violence. Method & Material: A Quantitative descriptive study was conducted with purposive random sampling by using a self-administered semi-structured validated questionnaire including data related causes and incidences related workplace violence. A total 120 nurses participated in the study from different hospitals. Descriptive statistics were used for analysing frequencies and percentages. The Chi-square test was used for evaluating the association between variables. Result: the findings revealed that (63%) of nurses have been subjected to various forms of workplace violence, among them (37%) of nurses were verbally abused. The nurses providing emergency and critical care, the nurses working in the emergency department, and nurses working. Conclusions: Workplace violence may have a variety of detrimental effects on the psychological and physical well-being of healthcare professionals, including an increase in stress and anxiety levels, as well as emotions of resentment, guilt, insecurity, and exhaustion. Any act of aggression or threat of violence, including verbal or physical abuse of nurses who are employed or on duty, is referred to as "workplace violence. Workplace violence's effects might include everything from psychological problems to bodily harm or even death. Hospital administration must pay close attention to workplace violence. Create and put into action the right policies and strategies. These will make nurses more focused on them, which will lead to their services.
