Abstract

The main objects of this paper are to find out the effects of copper addition on porosity of eutectic Al-12 Si powder metallurgy alloy. This alloy is extensively used due to their unique properties in automobiles area such as pistons, rotary engine housings, liners etc. to reduce weight of the components and fuel consumption. In this experiment six Al-12Si-xCu alloys with copper content of 0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5%,4.5%,5.5% are produced. It is observed that the porosity of the sample increased with increase the copper content and also porosity is maximum in low compaction pressure.
