Abstract

Developing the smart window for the smart home system by gluing on the potential future technologies of IoT and cloud computing using hardware such as MSP-Launchpad and electro chromic film is the primary objective. The use of TI MSP432P401R Launchpad with grove base booster pack and CC3100 Wi-Fi simple link booster pack is done. The use of a light sensor module from Arduino to measure the amount of light incident upon a window, and an A4 size piece of Electro chromic film. Node Red server is used to connect MSP to IoT platform. For main circuit use of an N- channel MOSFET and a 4.7k resistor to control how much power is delivered to the film and adjust the tint. The product will feature an App as a user interface to control various settings. As per requirement, the user can control the window tint from his/her mobile application. One can keep an eye on home energy consumption, and maintain cooling in the house even thousands of miles away with smartphone and smart Wi-Fi solution within major appliances and lighting controls, for great peace of mind. For energy efficiency, Smart windows are a promising technology since they may shield direct sunlight through the windows and thus save energy for air-conditioning.
