Abstract

Disintegration is a physical process related to the mechanical breakdown of tablet into the smaller particles. Disintegration test is performed to determine whether the tablets disintegrate within prescribed time when placed in liquid medium under the specified experimental conditions. The purpose of this research is to study the various parameters of Paracetamol (Dolo 650) tablet. Various test such as Uniformity test, Friability test, Hardness test and Disintegration test are performed. For these study various apparatus such as weighing balance, Monsanto hardness tester, Friability tester, Disintegration Apparatus were used. Indian Pharmacopoiea (IP 2010) was referred for the research study. The main purpose was to study the Disintegration time of Paracetamol (Dolo 650) tablet with different media such as Orange juice, Coke, Coffee with milk and Milk. The standard media used is Phosphate Buffer of Ph 7.4. Standard Temperature for Disintegration Apparatus was +37 degree Celcius. Paracetamol is an OTC drug which is consumed with water but in some cases it is taken with beverages which affect the drug release or leads to food-drug interaction. Friability for tablet should not more than 1%. From this study it is concluded that administration of Paracetamol must be avoided with other media and it should be administered with water. Thus, work was focused to study the effect of different beverages on drug release profile of Paracetamol tablet by using Disintegration Effect.
