Abstract

In this study, ZnO/CaAl-Layered Double Hydroxide nanocomposite was synthesized using co-precipitation method. Powder-XRD, SEM-EDX, RAMAN and FT-IR techniques were used to describe the surface morphology and crystalline nature of the nanocomposite. The as-prepared composite was used for photochemical applications as an photocatalyst for the deterioration of organic contaminants under solar light illumination. Fast photocatalytic degradation and higher removal potential was observed for ZnO/CaAl-LDH than core CaAl-LDH. Nearly 90% of degradation of the organic pollutant occurred in 60 minutes because of the increased surface area and more active catalytic points of ZnO/CaAl-LDH composite. This work provides the synthesis of promising and 2D layered multifunctional composite material for the effective removal of organic contaminants especially dyes.
