Abstract

The normal vaginal flora is highly complex, dominated by lactobacilli of Doderlein that plays a vital role in maintaining the women's health and inhibits other pathogenic microorganisms. Vaginal pH normally ranges between 3.8 and 4.5. pH method is a useful indicator for the Detection of Bacterial Vaginosis. To determine the Prevalence rate of Bacterial Vaginosis by using the vaginal pH method, To assess the risk factors that lead to Bacterial Vaginosis, Mother who attends Gynaecology OPD. This study was a Quantitative non Experimental research design. The setting was in Gynaecology OPD and the Sample size was 200, selected through the Purposive sampling technique. The instrument used for the study was a structured interview schedule and Detection of Bacterial vaginosis by using pH strips. Data were analyzed by using One way ANOVA/Unpaired‘t value. In this study, the prevalence rate of bacterial vaginosis out of 200 women, 126 women detected bacterial vaginosis at 63%, Total prevalence rate of Bacterial Vaginosis of 0.63. Association of bacterial vaginosis among the women with selected demographic, obstetrical variable and risk factor. P<0.05 significant. Then Risk factors of this study were P<0.05 significant. A vaginal pH strip is a lowcost and feasible method to detect at home based level to early detection of Bacterial Vaginosis. As health personnel should take this as a simple inexpensive tool for preventive and curative methods to detect Bacterial Vaginosis and referral for laboratory investigation for further treatment.
