Descriptive Study to assess the Knowledge Regarding Breastfeeding among Primi Mother’s at Selected Area and PHC’s at Puducherry

Abstract

Introduction: Human milk is the best milk healthiest milk than artificial milk for the baby. Artificial feeding causing many death and diarrhoea in developing and developed countries breast feeding is the more value for both mother and baby. Aim: To assess the knowledge regarding breastfeeding among primi mothers & to associate with demographic variable of primi mothers regarding breast feeding. Methodology: In this study was descriptive survey research design. The sample size was 30 primi mothers by convenience sampling technique. The data was collected by selfadministered questionnaire to assess the knowledge regarding breastfeeding among primi mothers at selected schools at selected PHC in Lawspet. The data was analysed through descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Result: the result of the study shows that most of the primi mothers 25(83.3%) had moderate level of knowledge, 5 (16.7%) primi mothers had adequate level of knowledge and none of them had inadequate level of knowledge regarding breastfeeding. The demographic variable age of the mother in years and occupation of mother had shown statistically significant association with the level of knowledge regarding breastfeeding among primi mothers with their selected demographic variable with chi-square value of (x2=10.4, d,f=3) and (x2=10.9, d,f=3) at p<0.05 level. Conclusion: They were need health education regarding exclusive breastfeeding among primi mothers.
