Abstract

Merging section is the key point at the cloverleaf interchange for the purpose to merge the vehicle from Ramp to Freeway. This section is the potential for traffic crashes due to the composition of two traffic flow for the same space. This study proposes feasible of Ramp-meter at the merging section. Spot speed of different types of vehicles has been extracted from the videography data. Classified volume count at Ramp and freeway has been calculated for the traffic flow analysis. Speed-Flow-Density of the heterogeneous traffic can be modeled from the extracted data. The Speed-Flow-Density curve was plotted. This study proposes a linear regression model and simulation using PTV VISSIM at the merging section at the ramp. From the simulation, we can define the feasibility of the proposing of the Ramp-metering at the merging section. From this paper, we came to know about the recommendation for the feasibility criteria for the ramp and improvement for the existing merging section.
