Abstract

Black cotton soil with varying proportion of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) and Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) mixtures were prepared at the respective optimum moisture content and compaction factors were determined for different curing. The results obtained from the experimental study on the properties of Black Cotton soil and Black Cotton soil treated with CCR and GGBS in various proportions (2%, 4% & 6%) are discussed in this paper. It is observed that with increase in fine GGBS and CCR content, the maximum dry density increases. The results of laboratory tests conducted on black cotton soil suggests that with increase of GGBS and CCR content liquid limit, plastic limit and plasticity index decreases, which makes the soil less plastic. With the increase of GGBS and CCR percentage optimum moisture content goes on decreasing while maximum dry density goes on increasing, hence compactibility of soil increases making the soil more dense and hard.
