Abstract

With the modernization and industrial revolution the expectations of human being regarding comfort and luxuries are increased. But the counter part of it is that all the energy resources have been utilized to their extreme limit and now they are on the verge of extinction. To safeguard these energy resources the world is now emphasizing on renewable energy. Out of the many renewable energy resources available, Wind is one such resource which is available abundantly and freely. Wind is flowing freely on the highway and the motion of the vehicles imparts turbulence to the wind turbine which in turn “Boosts” the capacity of generation of wind turbine. Based on this concept y a set-up is prepared to utilize a combination of free flowing wind on highway and motion of the vehicles on the highway for the purpose of energy generation. Experiments were carried out on highways to determine the performance of wind turbine. Results show that power extracted by rotor from available wind speed as per Betz limit is 0.59 and the turbine used in this experimentation has this efficiency with a value of 0.54.
