Abstract

Acute bronchiolitis is the most common cause of hospitalization and morbidity among young children and infants. Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) is the common disease causing agent. In this case report, the author describes the history, presenting symptoms, the investigations carried out and the treatment plan that was implemented for an infant diagnosed with severe bronchiolitis with aspiration pneumonia. Later on, the infant developed hypoxic seizures and acute meningoencephalitis. In spite of several new vaccines and treatments under trial, the existing treatment for bronchiolitis is generally supportive. So far, no medical treatment has been proven to reduce the clinical outcomes.
