Abstract

In recent days, the use of high specific strength materials has been rapidly increased. Particularly in aeronautical and automotive sector the use of aluminium-silicon composites prominently high, because of high wear resistance, high strength to weight ratio, low density and low coefficient of thermal expansion. Day by day human requirements are increasing so congruently development of new materials is very much needed, especially in the field of aerospace and automobile sector requirement of high efficient materials and investigating of Mechanical and Tribological behavior of such recently developed materials are necessary. In this current study, Aluminium based composites consists of 7%, 12% and 14% weight of Silicon were produced using stir-casting method. Optical Microscopy examination reviles that different samples of same composition have shown near uniform distribution of Silicon in the prepared alloys microstructure. Mechanical properties like ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength (YS) were found out on universal testing machine, hardness property has been tested on Vickers hardness testing machine .Tribological properties like wear resistance was studied by using computerized pin on disc wear testing machine. At the end worn surfaces were examined under electron microscope to find out the root cause of failure modes.
